The 2010 POPRA Season finally got here. It got kicked off at the Lake Havasu Grand Prix from April 22 - 25. It was a great weekend. It was so much fun. The weekend got kicked off with the legendary Desert Storm Street Party, and let me tell you, it was one hell of a desert storm that came through that afternoon and early evening. Needless to say, it ran everyone indoors for a while, but eventually it let up and the party was back on. Friday was the Desert Storm Poker Run. It was as awesome as ever. We have been going for 8 years and wouldn’t miss it for the world. Saturday was the exciting. POPRA had practice on the north-side of the island and the Desert Storm promoter had a shootout on the south-side of the island. There was a 50′ Mystic there that ran 206 mph in the shootout. Yes….206 mph. Don’t believe me? Check out this link JBS 206 . We didn’t run in the shootout, but if we would have, JBS would have had a challenge on their hands, and then would have started their second engine and blown us away, but that’s another story. Sunday was the race and it wasn’t one of our best performances. When it was all said and done, we took third place. It was a bit of a let down, but that’s racing. I was honored to have one of my title sponsors at the race. The legendary Kerry Lynch, owner of Gatorz Sunglasses and world famous driving instructor, was there to hang out and watch the weekends events. Thanks for the support Mr. Lynch, we are definitely proud to have your brand associated with our team.
Next stop, Long Beach. Once again, an amazing weekend of racing and fun. We started the weekend off on Friday with a Catered lunch sponsored by In The Red Racing. The lunch included Tri Tip, Bar-B-Que Chicken, Potatoe Salad, Pasta Salad, and a bun. Great food with great friends. What more can you ask for. The Race this year was a bit different than years in the past. We raced inside the harbor this year, not to Catalina Island, and the race was on Saturday. It was refreshing for a change to be home by lunch time on Sunday after a race, instead of the early morning hours of Monday Morning.
On to the Race. We had a few gremlins in practice on Friday and thought that we had them figured out. I was wrong. Another dissapointing finish. A major let down for the Team, its Crew and the Sponsors. On that note, I would like take a minute to thank our Sponsor Gatorz “Precision Built Eyewear” and Mr. Lynch for attending the Race. We will make a come back, I promise you that.
Now it’s off to San Diego. If you have never been to the San Diego Bayfair Race, you are missing out. Please come out to the Race and find time to stop by the Pits and say Hi. By the way, we may have a guess Driver in the boat. Stay tuned for possible news on this topic.
As always, “Thanks for the support”,
Troy and Kristin
